COVID 19 – Pandemic – Updated Golf Restrictions
So if you’ve been out playing golf for the past 14 months, you’d notice that the “pandemic golf restrictions” continue to be modified and somewhat “lifted” each week. Hopefully soon, we’ll be back to our “normal” way of golf. Some noticeable considerations that are still in play are: limited number of golfers in club house, no rakes in bunkers, modified cups so limited to no touching of golf pin sticks. Players are not encouraged to congregate after rounds. At least they are letting players ride two to a golf cart now. But if you feel the need to be totally distanced, you can be accommodated with a single rider cart.
Our Seacoast Christian Tournament Golf Club Committee has ruled and determined that with the “lack” of bunker rakes, and potential lack of “proper bunker maintenance”, that all sand bunkers will be played as “ground under repair.” Players are entitled to a free drop one club length within the bunker not nearer the hole.
Hopefully all of you are getting the hang of it during this “COVID 19- golf time.” Please still be safe in all your decisions, and if you feel you’d be better off at home, then please do what is best for you. The golf tournament committee wants all of you to be health and safe and to insure that you are certain that you’re safe and healthy when you get out and play. Bottom line, if you are feeling ill, or have been exposed to someone with active COVID 19, please stay home. Thank you all for your careful and considerate decisions.
We had 25 players show up for this month’s event at Steele Canyon GC. Today’s challenge involved a 18 hole challenge on this trying course. There are 3 “nine” hole courses here and the tournament committee determined the Canyon / Ranch set up would challenge our field today. With a course rating / slope from the WHITE tees (71.0 / 133) players would have to bring their “A” game and course management skills to tackle the task at hand. We were treated with a beautiful sunny day in the mid 80s’ with a nice coastal sea breeze. Those who toughed it out today were able to gain “Major Points” to add to their season totals. Being a “Major Event” point values for gross / net placing and pin competition holes were doubled in value. Also, “Match Play Card off” was instituted for the field. All players who have a current official golf index / handicap were paired off in “field index order.” If you had your in “A” game shape, then you were going to be rewarded and had the golden opportunity to climb the Seacoast Christian GC Leader Board as we move into our “Playoff Season.”
A few players today did take advantage of today’s scoring opportunity and they solidified their standings for the playoffs.
Welcome to a few newcomers to our golf season : Dave Stapleton and Ron Brillantes

SCORE CARD
GREAT SCORING – the tournament committee recognizes and awards points to those players who showcase their outstanding golf abilities to post low gross / low net scoring amongst the field of players
Match Play Card Off – Players with official golf indices were paired up and their score cards were compared in “Match Play” fashion. Winning match would be worth 50 points. Tie matches would be worth 25 points.
Recap Event 8 – Today 25 golfers showed up to play the challenging Canyon/Ranch courses at Steele Canyon GC. The course played fair as long as you kept the ball in play. Those who not in control of their “slice / fade / hook” shots surely paid the price. The greens were smooth and quick. Knowing this course and especially the greens had it’s advantages as the “3 putt -bug” was on the prowl today. Since this event was one of 2nd “Major” event competitions for our season, several players realized that they had to make a move and score well to take advantage of all the points available to win and to move up the leader board. The bottom line…if you kept your ball in play, avoided the hazards, and kept your greens play to within “2 putt” territory, you’d be able to post a decent score. Those who scored the “double and triple” bogey would pay the price today.
To the ACTION: Geoff Baynes displayed an incredible improvement to his game and racked up 280 points to add to his season totals. He posted a low gross 83/ low net 60 to solidify his standing on the leader board. He reported that his attention to the “lean and tilt” swing method has resonated well with his game and he’s seen amazing improvement to his ball flight height and distance. Geoff moved from 10th place to now 2nd. Ted Clinite, who has kept his top spot on the leader board for the majority of our golf season, remains our leader, but the gap is closing as several players has made a move in chasing him. Ross Mitchell moved from 8th to 4th position as he earned 210 points today. Ross is ready for the playoffs and can’t wait to get into match play. Both Curtis Chan and Brian Carter won a needed 190 points today in their efforts to climb the leaderboard with this regular season “Major” event. Both their efforts firmly placed them in the middle of the pack as we go into the playoffs.
