Tee Times and Pairings

We had a great time this past Friday morning.  Twenty Eight golfers were in the field for our  challenging visit to St. Mark GC, in San Marcos.    The Lord Blessed us with a very nice San Diego summer weather  front which was picture perfect and made a great golf day.  The golf course’s “rough” was absolutely treacherous if you happened to find it.  The greens were pure and rolled well.  Only those players who had mental toughness, along with their “A” game were able to come out on top and post low scores.  Today’s competition is also the “2nd Major” event of the year where points value for placement earnings are doubled.  Also a Team Competition is instituted by “The Committee” where players are paired up in teams to compete in a “1-2-3 Best Ball (Low Net)” Team competition.  See details below.

Welcome to the following players who are joining us for the first time this golf season:  Bryan Blackwell, Andy Trees, Joe Contreras

For our events, players are placed in golf “Flights” depending on their golf abilities reflected from their official monthly golf indices.  With that, players will be competing in a few categories.  Within their respective “Flights” players will compete for LOW GROSS scoring.  Then against the entire field of players, each player will score points from NET SCORING against the field.  There are individual points that can be earned from:  “Best Nine” low gross scoring, “NET SKINS” scoring, and “Pin Competition” holes (closest to pin / long drive holes).  All the scores are tallied up each month and players will earn points according what they did that day.

The Score Card

 Points Scoring Table

“1 -2 -3 / Best Ball”  Team Competition

Since this is a “Major” event, points value today are doubled from regular standard season points.  Additionally, the field of players were teamed up taking one player from each handicap flight.  The tournament committee insured that each team had an equitable balance of individual course handicaps.  The team competition would be a “1-2 3  Best Ball” where the team score is determined by the following format:

 On the first hole, the one best net score among the four teammates is the team score;
  • on the second hole, the two best net scores are combined for the team score;
  • on the third hole, the three best net scores are combined for the team score.

On the fourth hole, that rotation starts over and continues through the round.

 The Teams

The Cards below reflect the Individual Scoring that took place on the day of play, and the “Virtual Teams” that were put together by selection of players from each handicap flight in our field today.  100 points would be up for grabs for 1st place finish.

Sneakernomics: Golf and Team Sports Equipment Recap of 2020 Results - The NPD Group

Recap Event 8 – With our eighth golf event  in the books, we had a great showing of 28 players who came out to play.  The weather was picture perfect as our early morning 7:00a tee times approached.   All the players could attest how nicely the greens ran today.  But the rough and “Kikuyu”” grass was absolutely killer.  For some of us we can attest the “Kikuyu giveth, and Kikuyu taketh away!”

To the Action Today !    Ross Mitchell pulled out his “A” game skills and calmly made his way around this course and shot a cool 86 low gross today, which also earned him LOW NET 67 winner. Ross also catapulted his standings by earning 310 points today !  Newcomer Bryan Blackwell took the reins of his game and navigated this challenging course for a  smooth low gross 81, jumping his first time appearance to the middle of the leaderboard.  Bryan also helped lead his “1-2-3 Team” to a 1st place win to grab and extra 100 points!    Brian Carter fired up his game and proved he has reached newer levels of golf by moving up into the “B” Flight and shooting a low gross 87 today.  Along with this, he pulled out a 3rd place showing in team competition and also took home a “skin” today .  This netted him a total points scoring total of 260 points to take him to the top of the leader board !  John Estill also finished 1st in Flight “C” and along with his steady play he cashed in on some needed points to put him in the middle of the pack going into the playoffs !  John Riggs (Flight “D”) was the only one in his group flight to break 100 today !  Riggs is positioned well for the playoffs too !  Way to go !!

Other Notables:   This year we have a few changes in who makes the “Playoffs” and plays in our Championship Bracket.  The tournament committee has made a few improvements and has determined that for our two playoff events, ALL players who participate in the field, will have the ability to earn points toward their points totals.  It is only when we get to the 3rd round of our playoffs, will the CUT line be established.  Those players who have sufficient points will to to the next round in the “Championship Bracket.”  All other players will continue to compete, but will compete in the “Player’s Brackets.”

Here’s a chart of the playoff picture:

USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile.   One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play.   Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible.  Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed.   If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”

Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee.
