COVID 19 – Pandemic  – Updated Golf Restrictions

So if you’ve been out playing golf for the past two months, you’d notice that the “pandemic golf restrictions” continue to be modified and somewhat “lifted” each week.  Hopefully soon, we’ll be back to our “normal” way of golf.  Some noticeable considerations that are still in play are:  limited number of golfers in club house, no rakes in bunkers, modified cups so limited to no touching of golf pin sticks.  Players are not encouraged to congregate after rounds.  At least they are letting players ride two to a golf cart now.  But if you feel the need to be totally distanced, you can be accommodated with a single rider cart.  Walking is still encouraged.

Our Seacoast Christian Tournament Golf Club Committee has ruled and determined that with the “lack” of bunker rakes, and potential lack of “proper bunker maintenance”, that all sand bunkers will be played as “ground under repair.”  Players are entitled to a free drop, nearest point of relief, not closer to the hole if their ball ends up in a sand bunker.

Hopefully all of you are getting the hang of it during this “COVID 19- golf time.”   Please still be safe in all your decisions, and if you feel you’d be better off at home, then please do what is best for you.  The golf tournament committee wants all of you to be health and safe and to insure that you are certain that you’re safe and healthy when you get out and play.

We had 25 players show up for this month’s event at The Crossings at Carlsbad GC.  We were treated with a beautiful sunny day in the mid 70s’ with a nice coastal sea breeze.  There were just handful 0f  players who proved their game was in “A” game shape, while others fell short and the “shortcomings” of their golf game became exposed.   Several players ventured out for this event as it was their first event for the year…welcome back to our group:  Rich Ringer, Mike Tucker, and Dave Ednoff.

Recap Event 7 – Today Twenty-Five golfers showed up to play the challenging “Crossings at Carlsbad” course.  Those who are familiar with this course layout, know that course management is a must, and keeping your ball in play is a premium.  Some holes may appear shot and easy, but if you don’t mind your golf game, the double or triple bogey can grab your scorecard in a heart beat.  Very few players showed up to showcase their skills, but those who did, surely proved that they could be this year’s Seacoast Christian GC champion.

Some actions notes:  Ted Clinite proved he would’t be pushed over by this course.  He calmly score “7” birdies on his card today, giving him low gross (71)  and low net honors (66), plus showing the field how to tackle this course.  Nice shooting Ted !   Kevin Barrett, also kept his game under control and posted a cool 83, which netted him a low net 69, just a few strokes behind Ted.

Today a few players also came out for the first time for this year’s golf season, and showed off their swings.  Mike Tucker showed us his driving power off the tee (and directional skills) as he racked up 3 of 4 longest drives.  Also notable is the stellar play of Richard Mulligan – 96  (Flight C).  Also, Rich Ringer and Brian Carter who shot 94 (Flight D).  Rich has recently come off a heart procedure, but now is getting back his strength and stamina, and showing off that his golf game is still intact…way to go Rich !!

Our next event will be Friday, August 7, 2020.  We be playing the private club course at Morgan Run CC in Rancho Santa Fe.   This will be a 27 hole event (Major) as this club has three 9 hole courses – East, North , and South.  Cost is $90 per player which includes range and cart.  For those who can only do 18 holes the cost is $75.   NOTE / All fees will need to be paid in advance for this event.  Reply back on this email if you want to get a spot.

The Leader Board continues to evolve as we get closer to our “playoff season.”  With one more “Major Event” in the cycle, players have one more big opportunity to add points to their season’s totals.  As of this month, Ted Clinite continues to reign supreme at the top, with Kevin Barrett trying to dig in and close the gab between 1st and 2nd place.   Ted’s stellar play will make it hard to close the gap, but players who end up in the TOP 24 will surely make it into the playoff berths for our play off season competition.

There’s still time to get more points…. so get in the field for our next scheduled event on August 7, 2020 – Morgan Run CC – 27 hole event.
