COVID 19 – Pandemic – Updated Golf Restrictions
So our golf group has been playing “events” under the COVID 19 conditions since April. By now if you’ve been out playing golf for the past three months, you’d notice that the “pandemic golf restrictions” continue to be modified and somewhat “lifted” each week. Hopefully soon, we’ll be back to our “normal” way of golf. Some noticeable considerations that are still in play are: limited number of golfers in club house, no rakes in bunkers, modified cups so limited to no touching of golf pin sticks. Players are not encouraged to congregate after rounds. At least they are letting players ride two to a golf cart now. But if you feel the need to be totally distanced, you can be accommodated with a single rider cart.
In consideration of our “PLAYOFF Season” Our Seacoast Christian Tournament Golf Club Committee has adopted the following.
Please note the “Bunker” play issue we’ve been using has been modified (you must remain in bunker)
COVID 19 Event Procedures and Protocols:
General Protocols
- a) If you’re not feeling well, please stay home
- b) Wash hands frequently, use sanitizer, and avoid touching your face
- c) Refrain from shaking hands or coming into contact with others onsite
- d) Wear a mask in the pro-shop and in any situation where you can safely social distance yourself from another person.
- BUNKERS /RAKES – Since there are no “sand bunker rakes” being provided by golf courses, the maintenance or quality of the bunker can be in question. Therefore, our club will adopt the following remedy for bunker ruling.
- Bunkers:
- a) Take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball
- b) Within one club-length of the original spot, not nearer the hole and in the same bunker.
- c) Smooth the sand with your feet, or a club, after hitting their ball out of the bunker
We had 28 players show up for our 12th Event of the Season. This would also be the “Semi Finals” as we are winding down our playoff season. Today’s challenge involved an 18 hole challenge match play event which marks our fourth event of our “end of season Playoffs.” This event involved players being matched up in “Match Play” according to their monthly indices and player’s course handicap. Our TOP 4 Semi Finalist would square off in competition in an attempt to earn 400 points for a match play WIN . Player’s who didn’t qualify for the “Championship Bracket” would participate and compete in the “Player’s Bracket” and would have the possibility to earn 200 points for a match play WIN. Also points would be earned in our normal LOW GROSS / LOW NET / LOW NET Skins , as well as pin competitions.
As we near the end of our golf season, our playing format will allow us to determine our “Seacoast Cup Club 2020 Champion.” The player who earns the most points will take home the trophy this year.

Pre Match Notes:
Match 1
Geoff Baynes has been the “stealth” golfer of the playoffs. His ability to produce shots under pressure can not be disputed. He is mentally tough and his competitive spirit allows him to be a tough opponent. Geoff has been battling health issues, but has managed to push through all his adversity and has landed himself into the semi finals. He says he is ready to go.
Kevin Barrett has been soaring with his golf game. These past months he has risen to new plateaus of golf and his scoring ability has blossomed. His recent change to the new Taylor Made SIM irons has opened new paths to his game. Kevin has a great short game and he is tough to beat. It will be a tough match as Kevin will have to be on top of his game as he must give Geoff +9 strokes today.
Match 2
Rik Thistle has been to the semi finals before and his experience allows him to not allow the pressure of “playoff match play” to come into view. Rik has been practicing all year for this moment and his match against Ted today is a match that is a “Deja Vu”….they met in the semi finals last year. Last year Rik came out on top and hopes to get the same result again.
Ted Clinite has been stellar in his game this year. Most of the regular golf season, Ted has led the leader board. His steadiness off the tee, and his single digit golf index keeps his game crisp and clean. Rarely does he make two bad shots consecutively. Ted knows he is against a tough competitor, but he is ready to display his game today. Even though will be giving Rik +7 strokes today, Ted knows he’s got game to deal with anyone.

Match Play ACTION:
In Match #1 / Geoff Baynes ends up winning his match over Kevin Barrett. The match started off with both players making blunders and in their attempts to save bogeys, they ended up doubling the first few holes. Baynes benefited by his stroke allotment for the day which gave him the edge on several holes on the front 9 . By the time Barrett got his first par on hole #6, Baynes had a 4 UP lead in the match. Barrett finally got some momentum in his game and was able to cut Goeff’s 4Up lead in half, but by the time they got to hole #15, Baynes took control and ended the match at 4 and 3.
In Match #2 / Rik Thistle was able to overcome a shaky start and was able to come back after being down 3 after 4 holes. Ted took advantage of Rik’s mistakes over the first opening holes, but by the 7th hole, Rik began to find his game and started to make his needed pars. Clinite opened the door for Rik with a few blunder double bogeys which allowed Rik to take the momentum away from Ted. By the 15th hole, Rik’s par beat another “bogey blunder” by Ted, which ended the match at 4 and 3.
The remainder of the field enjoyed friendly “match play” competition in the Player’s Bracket where 200 points were being offered up for winners.

GREAT SCORING / NET SKINS / PIN COMPETITION WINNERS
Recap Event 11 – Today 27 golfers showed up to play Twin Oaks GC. The weather was cool most of the day and only when the last few groups began to got to the later holes, did the sun break through the early morning marine layer. Ross Mitchell has been on a golf rampage these past few events and has proven that his new irons are a big key to his success. Ever since getting his irons his ability to hit greens in regulation has dramatically improved. His confidence in his play and of course his scoring has allowed him to jump to the top of our Player’s Cup bracket. Ross added over 1000 points to his year’s totals from this last event to make a statement that he wants to become the Player’s Cup Champion. Way to go Ross !!! Other notables is the play of Bruce Dunn who battled it out with Ross but came up a bit short in the Match Play. But his low gross and low net scores helped him earn 640 points. Other players who earned over 500 points this past Friday were: John Riggs, Paul Deveau, Mike Haug, Todd Lytel, Dave Ednoff, Craig Johnson, Wayne Wilson, and Frank Sung. Nice going guys !
Congratulations to the winners and those who earned their way to the Championship Match!!!

On September 25, 2020 event, the Top 8 players will match up again in “Match Play” with Seed #1 vs. Seed #8 / Seed #2 vs. Seed #7 etc….At the end of the round….The TOP 4 players in points earnings will continue to the Semi Finals. Those players who don’t make it into the TOP 8 will play in the “Player’s Bracket” and still continue to earn points.
