GREAT SCORING / NET SKINS / PIN COMPETITION WINNERS

Recap Event 11 – Today 23  golfers showed up to play the challenging and beautiful Golf Club of California golf course in Fallbrook.   The course has been taken over by a new owner this past year, and they have put $$ into the course.  The Greens were smooth and receptive.  Fairways nicely groomed.  Bunkers had new sand nicely placed all over the course.  Major trimming and groom of the course is greatly appreciated.  As the day became warmer and the sun made its way onto the greens, they certainly became fast and quick.  The challenge of navigating and using precise golf course management skills was the key to earning your way to a win and points scoring today.   Those who had their “A” game on display today, and those players who were able to get a “WIN” in their match, earned their way to the top of our leader boards.

Increased Hitting Distances Detrimental To Future Of Golf ...

To the ACTION:  Our top 8 seeded players were match up.   Geoff  Baynes, Ted Clinite,  John Casey, Paul Deveau, Johnny Li,  Ross Mitchell, Brian Carter, and Ebin Smith.  A late change in one of our TOP 8 players was announced by the tournament committee when 8th seeded player, Kent Coykendall informed the committed that he had to withdrawal from the Championship Bracket due to his heavy end of year work schedule.  With that, the 9th seeded player, Ebin Smith was invited up to be in the TOP 8 and he gladly accepted the invitation.

Recap of Matches:

Match 1  / Baynes (+12)  vs. Smith – Both players exerted their golf skills as they both went back and forth in taking 1 UP leads.  Ebin Smith had to keep his game in gear as he had to give Geoff Baynes +12 strokes for the match. But on the back nine, Ebin took the momentum when Baynes took a triple bogey on the short par 4 #15 hole allowing Smith to  square up the match.  Ebin successfully parred the next 2 holes, while Geoff struggled to find his swing that has been so successful throughout this golf season.  By hole #17, Ebin closed the match at 2 UP.

Match 2 /  Clinite vs. Carter (+12).  Ted Clinite mentally had to dig deep as Brian Carter has recently taken some post season golf momentum into this quarter finals match.  Carter struggled from the beginning as he found out how steady and accurate Ted’s “A” game can be.  Double and triple bogeys in match play don’t help in any way, and by the time the 15th hole was scored, Carter needed a birdie to extend the match.  Ted won the match 5 and 3.

Match 3 /  Li vs. Ross (+1)  – Johnny Li has found himself deep into the playoffs and has been playing “A” game golf in recent rounds.  Ross Mitchell also has been steady in his game.  Both players started out with pars, but then on hole #2, both players began to fall apart.  Winning a hole with a posted triple bogey is a golf rarity in “match play” but Johhny Li’s game got shaken up and he posted a NINE….but in match play you live by the saying “one hole at a time”…and Johnny did exactly that.  On the very next hole #3 he collected himself and score a winning par to Tie up the match.  from there the players traded back and forth wins, until Johnny took a commanding 2 up lead on hole #14.   Ross threw out his very best and even steadily score pars, but Johnny had some heroic 20-30 foot putts that fell in to win some amazing holes.  He was able to hold off any charge attempts by Ross and closed out the match on hole #18 with a par.  Li wins 2 UP

Match 4 / Deveau vs. Casey (+6) – This match was played one week earlier and was observed by the tournament committee.  Both players came out blazing with saving putts to keep the match all square.  John Casey then on #2 shanked his drive into the wooded fenced hazard and took an 8 to lose the hole.  But Paul Deveau didn’t taken advantage of the ability to gain any momentum in the match and feel behind quickly as he dug a deep hole by hole #11 being 7 down.  By the time Paul tried to turn his game around it was too late and not enough holes left to overcome the deficit.  Casey wins 7 and 5

Our next event will be Friday, October 8, 2021.  We be playing the beautiful and challenging Twin Oaks GC in San Marcos.  The cost is $53 / player.  Tee times begin at 7:30a.      Reply back on this email to get a spot in the field.  Field is limited to 32 players.

The Leader Board  –  Your  TOP 4 players have taken their spots.   Congratulations to:   Ted Clinite, Johnny Li,  Ebin Smith, and John Casey.  You are now just one more step closer in earning the 2021 Seacoast Championship

Championship Semi Finals – Twin Oaks GC – October 8, 2021

Player’s Cup Bracket -2021 – for all the players who did not make it into the Semi Finals, there is still plenty of competition left for our golf season.  As the TOP4 make their way up their bracket, the rest of the field can still compete for points to determine our “player’s cup bracket” champion.   Players will still come out for our remaining events, and we’ll have enough competition and fun to make golf memories of a lifetime.

Also for the remainder of the year, the value for Low Gross / Low Net  placing shall be according to the following “Seacoast Cup Playoff ” points scoring tables:

2021 Seacoast Cup Championship –  this is the post season play that will determine our club champion.  Starting August 27, 2021, players will participate in “Match Play” and Stroke Low Gross / Low Net play and compete for elevated “Playoff Points.”   The more points you earn, the higher up the bracket you’ll be.  On September 24, 2021 event, the Top 8 players will match up again in “Match Play” with Seed #1 vs. Seed #8 / Seed #2 vs. Seed #7  etc….At the end of the round….The TOP 4 players in points earnings will continue to the Semi Finals.  Those players who don’t make it into the TOP 8 will play in the “Player’s Bracket” and still continue to earn points.   This year the focus is on how many points one earns throughout the year and playoffs, determine how deep you can go into becoming The Champion.  One may have enough points in their standings to endure a “Loss” in post season match play and still continue in the competition towards the top spot in becoming the 2021 Seacoast Cup Champion.

NOTE:  a change in date for EVENT 14 / it is now schedule for November 19, 2021
