Today’s “2nd Round Playoffs” also included a “Match Play” or “Match Play Card-Off” – Players would be paired up in “match play” and compete against the player based upon their position on our leaderboard. Note only players with “official golf index” qualify for “match play” points.
Here are the matchups and results:
Recap Event 10 – With our 10th event in the books, we were blessed with another gorgeous day of golf. The course was challenging, tough but fair. Player’s need to have their “A” game in course management skills, and keeping their ball “in play’ was a premium. This course can easily beat you up if you don’t find the fairway or green. The greens were smooth, receptive and true. In our “Flight A” group, Ron O’Bard took charge and fired a low gross 38 on the front nine, showing why he is a contender this year. He ended up with a low gross 80…nicely done Ron ! In the “B” flight, Scott Crockett (our 2023 Seacoast Cup Champion) proved he is a contender and posted a low gross 88 and won his “match play” match to earn 280 points to his totals. In Flight “C” in our field, John Casey posted a Low Gross 94 to keep his leaderboard ranking intact by earning 270 points to help him find himself in 3rd place on the leaderboard. In Flight “D” Steve Knorr once again showcased his steady golf skills and posted a Low Gross 109 to take honors in his “D” Flight
With today’s round in the books, several players scored the needed points to keep up with the pack and launch their playoff hopes into the “TOP 8”. Most of our top tier regular players kept up their standing and playoff hopes alive. Mike Haug solidified his spot by winning his match and earning enough points to secure the #5 spot. Scott Crockett racked up 280 points to find himself on the #6 spot after starting the day at #14. The goal is to become a TOP 8 player by the end of event 10…so there’s much work to be done for several players who are in contention. Curtis Chan didn’t have his best day after losing a tight match to Danny Chavez, but kept up his points totals up by earning 110 points to secure the #7 spot. Geoff Baynes earned his win and also 196 points to slide himself in the the coveted #8 spot.
A few players still won their matches today, but fell short on total points to make it to the TOP 8.
Noteables : Ron O’Bard (playing only in his 5th event) racked up 320 points today, but needed at least another 175 points to get to the TOP 8. Alan Hoekstra and Ross Mitchell also had a tough day on the course today, and the absolute need for a “match play” win would help their playoff chances just didn’t happen for them today…now they are just below the cut line to the TOP 8 and can only hope they become “alternate” selections.
Also a “Hole -In – One” ACE was made on hole #7 Par 3 by Jay Brandenburg…he was so excited that he forgot to take a picture…anyways…Congrats Jay !!
The Playoff Season is still in play as all players who are not in the TOP 8 will continue to compete for points in the “Player’s Cup” division. Your current playoff points will still remain in play, and you just need to come out to play earn more playoff points as we continue our competition.
