We had a fresh start to our 2021 golf season.  Twenty seven golfers showed up in the early cool  temperature air to warm up their swings.   Fortunately, by 7:30a, the sun broke through and began to warm the course and players were able to removed their layers to show off their latest golf attire.   Welcome to all those new comers to our club.  Most of the players in the field are all signed up for the 2021 season with our SCGA / GHIN / USGA  -Seacoast Christian GC organization.  We plan a fun filled year of golf for our club members.  It is the golf committee’s  hope  that all of you will enjoy the friendly competition and year ending post season play which has been planned for all to enjoy.   Along this year’s golf journey with us, we also hope you create new bonds of friendship and camaraderie.

Welcome to:  Van Coykendall (university student – son of Kent) who is still hanging out here in San Diego during the pandemic…Van is currently working on his  Master’s of Engineering program at M.I.T…but still has time to show that he’s got a golf game as good as dad.  Way to hang in there to compete with your dad.

Recap Event 1 – With our first event in the books, we had a great start with Lee Fitzgerald (Flight C) showing off his “A” game skills by posting a low gross 80 / low net 64 on the score board.  Other notables: Bill Locken (Flight A) -finished strong posting a low gross 76 to prove that he’s got a steady golf game to take him to the playoffs this year.  Johnny Li (Flight B)  also showed off his 2021 swing and proved he can be a challenger this year for the the Seacoast Cup Trophy.  Toddy Lytel (Flight D) enjoyed his birthday today on the golf course and proved that when it’s your birthday, you too can post a good score.  Todd won his flight and posted a low gross 91.   Happy Birthday Todd !!

Taking both Low Gross / Low Net top points, Lee Fitzgerald pushes forward and takes the top spot on our leader board.   Additionally,  Lee won 2 skins today along with a closest to the pin hole.  Lee knows how to keep his swing in check, and has great sense on golf course management….hopefully he can continue this trend through the golf season.

It’s early in the season, and there’s a large group of guys eager to activate their “A” game to make it into this year’s playoffs.    Here’s the calendar of events for this year so you can plan accordingly.

USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile.   One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play.   Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible.  Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed.   If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”

Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee.
