2023 Semi Finals – TOP 8
The Following matchups consists of the 8 players who have qualified to continue on in our 2023 Seacoast Cup Championships. Winners of their matches would earn 300 points. These Top 8 players have worked hard this season to show up for our events and posting great low golf scores throughout the season to earn as many points as they can. Also winning early in the “Playoffs” has earned them big point to get them to this event.
Today our TOP 8 Semi Finalists played “Match Play” in addition to our regular “Low Net / Low Gross” scoring, plus Net Skins and pin competition to earn points towards their season golf totals. These “2023 Championship Semi Finalist” would also compete in their Matches for 300 points which would be earned for a WIN. A Win would help take them to the Quarter Finals.
Recap Event 11 – With our eleventh event in the books, our players enjoyed a great day of golf at Native Oaks GC. This course will test every aspect of your golf game, and will expose any areas of your game that need help. Players who manage their game and make good decisions along the way to keep their scores intact will survive the day. An “A” game is a must to survive and to be able to win a match and post a great score.
In MATCH 1 – Riggs vs. Huebner, John Riggs took his game to a new level as he’s been on a quest of maintain is “competition” mode for the past few months. He took the early lead and held on all day and did not let Bruce gain any momentum to get back into this match. Anytime Bruce made a move and scored well, John matched this good play and responded with a tie or another hole in his favor. The match ended on the 15th hole and John had a sigh of relief as he now gets to move on to the Semi Finals.
In MATCH 2 – Smith vs. Hoekstra, both low handicapped (single digit) players knew that whoever played well today would most likely win the match. Ebin Smith took an early momentum lead as Alan faulted a bit with a couple of double bogeys in the front nine allowing Smith to get to 3 Up. Alan was able to claw his way back to get within 1 and held on to see if Ebin would finally give in…. but Ebin was sharp most of the way and held onto his 1 Up lead to end the match on the 17th hole.
In MATCH 3 – Clinite vs. Miller a match consisting of “low handicap” vs. “high handicap” player where Ted Clinite had to grant Bill Miller (+21) strokes for the match. Miller dug deep into his golf bag today, and mentally told himself not to get onto to the double bogey wagon today. But after the 4th hole, Bill opened up the gates by scoring some double and triple bogey holes, but Ted couldn’t respond well enough by having a few blunder holes himself… not capitalizing on Bills high scoring. With this, Ted didn’t take advantage of his openings, and allowed Bill to take a 3 up lead. Finally when Ted settled into his game and started to play his normal “par” scoring self, Bill threw in a few great holes and didn’t let Ted gain any momentum Bill squeezed out the win and upset Ted’s golf game today.
In MATCH 4 – Deveau vs. Crockett consisted of a match that would test both players ability to stay calm and minimize any golf “blunders” during their round. Both players are solid “B” flight players and have played very well this year. Both players started off with “shaky” starts having difficulty scoring par, but Crockett took an early 1 Up lead…but by hole 3 Paul solidly parred on of his favorite holes (he had an “ACE” here earlier this year) to climb back to TIE the match. Then Scott somehow took advantage of Paul’s triple bogey on hole #4 and managed to carry his lead to keep and Paul on the ropes the rest of the round. All the back nine Paul was playing “catch up” and just ran out of holes as he got closed out on hole #15 and found himself congratulating Scott for a winning match.
Here are the Championship bracket Winners – Quarter Finalist -TOP 4 Players:
Congratulations to you all for making it to the TOP 4 !!!
In our “Player’s Cup” bracket, the rest of the field today were paired up in their “post season line up order” based on the Leader Board position. Players would also be able to compete in “match play” but would earn 150 points for a Winning match. Players all came out with eagerness and anticipation to play their best, but some player fell short and got the “crush” of Native Oaks as many holes here can “crush” your game and emotions about this game.
Congratulations to those who found success today in their game and were able to move up the leaderboard. There are 2 more events left to see if you can make it to the upper levels to prove you can be the “2023 Player’s Cup” champion.
Group Pics for the day
Other Notables: Bill Miller played his heart out today as he upset Ted Clinite’s chances at getting to the Semi Finals. Bill is one of our high handicappers, but he played within his golf ability and even scored at the right times to keep Ted’s game off balance today. This great play of Bill also got him bragging rights for LOW NET scoring today !!….Way to go Bill Miller – Congratulations on your win today !!!
Player’s Bracket News for 2023 – Bryan Blackwell and Rhett Dahle took care of business today and earned big point to continue their climb up the leaderboard. Even though a few players from the “championship bracket” fell out of qualifications for the 2023 Championship Cup, their is now a big surge of players who are in the hunt for the “2023 Player’s Cup” bragging rights. There are 2 events left and anything can happen !!!
How to earn “Playoff Points” – our same format will be played with Low Gross / Low Net with all remaining events. USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile. Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed. If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”
Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee. All players are required to “POST” their golf grounds ASAP as index ratings are calculated daily. Please use Ghin.Com / or phone app to post your scores.
