Recap Event 5 – With our fifth event in the books, our players enjoyed a great day of golf on one of San Diego’s challenging golf course. If you have a few past experiences on this course, you’d have an advantage as there are several holes that can eat you ball alive if you didn’t know what’s lurking ahead. . Course knowledge and “golf management” skills were needed to be successful today. “Newcomer” Steve Osborn took on “Low Gross ” honors with a score of 80. Steve is recently relocating from Orange County to Encinitas, where he is joining the pastoral team at Seacoast Community Church. A very close 2nd place was posted by Ebin Smith who posted a very respectable 82 score today. Way to go guys! In the “B Flight” division, both Johnny Li and Bruce Dunn posted a low gross scores of 83 to earn themselves needed 1st place points. In the “Flight C” division, John Estill (90) and Bruce Huebner (90) proved that they can keep their game in play and keep competitive as they both added 1st place points of 50 towards their points total. In our “Flight D” group, Mike Yorkey took control of this golf game and proved he’s “got game” by posting low gross 93 / low net 69. Way to go Mike !!!
A big congratulations to Johnny Li who just arrived last night from a 2 week trip to Taipei, Taiwan. Johnny explained to the media reporter before the round that he was totally on “golf adrenaline” as he had only 2 hours sleep and was operating in the “twilight zone.” His 14 hour plane flight landed just last night here in Southern California, and Johnny realized that he took off from Taiwan, just 2 hours before he landed on the same day !!…then he got a few hours of sleep and found himself hitting golf balls on the range at Native Oaks GC. Somehow, his swing got “grooved in” and the next thing he realized, he was scoring well. Johnny says he just might have to make more trips to Taiwan.
Ebin Smith today earned just enough points today, to take over 1st place honors over Curtis Chan on the leader board. Dave Stapleton also made some moves up the leaderboard as he started the day in 12th position and shot his way now to take the 8th spot. For those who are new to the club, at the end of our regular golf season (mid August) we move into our “playoff season” where our top 24 players will go into “match play” competition to earn playoff points to see who can rack up as many points to earnt their way to the 2023 Seacoast Cup Championship Trophy. All players have a chance, so get your game in gear and be ready to have more fun.
Our golf season is now in full swing, and there’s a large group of guys now eager to activate their “A” game to make it into this year’s playoffs. The competition is fierce and every point counts. Here’s the calendar of events for this year so you can plan accordingly.
USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile. One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play. Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible. Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed. If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”
Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee. All players are required to “POST” their golf grounds ASAP as index ratings are calculated daily. Please use Ghin.Com / or phone app to post your scores.
