We had a fresh “WET” start to our 2023 golf season.  Thirty golfers showed up in the early cool  temperature air to warm up their swings.   Fortunately, the weather gave us some pause from all the rain storms from the week.   The course did have it’s share of water and the “ONLY CART PATH” rule was enforced.  Players were also not able to warm up their swings on the range as it was closed due to the wet conditions.  The tournament committee put into today’s rule “lift / clean / and place” rule along with “bunker preferred lies” rule.   Even though players were able to place their ball on the fairways in the most ideal condition, play was still difficult as the field’s scores showed.  Players were all over the course and by the end of the day, players were showing up at the club house all worn down and exhausted.  It was a tough day on the course today !
Welcome to all those new comers to our club.  Most of the players in the field are all signed up for the 2023 season with our SCGA / GHIN / USGA  -Seacoast Christian GC organization.  If you are a player who is not a member of our club, you are welcome to join and begin your SCGA / GHIN experience with our club.  Just click on the membership or renew membership link below.  We plan a fun filled year of golf for our club members.  It is the golf committee’s  hope  that all of you will enjoy the friendly competition and year ending post season play which has been planned for all to enjoy.   Along this year’s golf journey with us, we also hope you create new bonds of friendship and camaraderie.

Welcome to:  Keith Omsberg and Mark Ray

Recap Event 1 – With our first event in the books, we had a very “WET” start to our season.  The weather did allow our field of players to play, but we had to play under very tough conditions.  Firstly, the ONLY CART PATH rule added extra walking and expenditure in “golf energy” to our players.  Several players reported that they felt as if they walked 36 holes today.  Having “lift /clean/ place” rules for the day, still demanded that players hit perfect shots.  If you missed hit a shot today, you ended up with “mud on your face” or a “fat” shot that just came out short of your desired distance.

From down south Chula Vista, John Casey, who decided to make an early start with our group, showed off his “A” game skills by posting a low gross 93 / low net 72 on the score board.  Other notables: Ted Clinite (Flight A) -finished strong posting a low gross  85   to prove that he’s got a steady golf game inspite of touch golf course conditions.  Ted also wins the best “back” of “Best 9” .  For many players the front nine was a total  “shaky start” but as the day progressed, players were able to get the scoring band wagon on the back nine.   Paul Deveau and Scott Crockett (Flight B)  also showed off their 2023 swings and proved they can be a challenger this year for the the Seacoast Cup Trophy.

Nathan Haug, still home from college winter break, showcased his “youthful” speed swing and was able to launch some long drives today that found the fairway.

It’s early in the season, and there’s a large group of guys eager to activate their “A” game to make it into this year’s playoffs.    Here’s the calendar of events for this year so you can plan accordingly.

USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile.   One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play.   Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible.  Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed.   If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”

Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee.  All players are required to “POST” their golf grounds ASAP as index ratings are calculated daily.  Please use Ghin.Com / or phone app to post your scores.
