Tee Times and Pairings

We had a great time this past Friday morning in Fallbrook at The Golf Club of California.  Twenty-Six players came out to compete in our “Playoffs Round 3” event to determine who would make it into the TOP 4 for a chance to compete in our Seacoast Cup 2022 Championship.    Also those who are not in the “Championship Bracket” competed in the “Player’s Bracket” to rack up “Playoff Points” to also see who can become the Player’s Champion.   What a beautiful day the Lord provided as our “end of Summer” gave way to the most perfect of weather conditions as the players came out.  By the 7:30a tee times, the air was a gentle 75 degrees and the morning sun warmed up the course to the mid 80s for the day.  The competition was tight as players realized how our end of year “Match Play” format can rattle nerves and play havoc on player’s mental capability to play their very best.   Only those players who had mental toughness, along with their “A” game were able to come out on top and post low scores.   Today’s competition marks the 3rd Playoff Round of  Match Play  Playoff competition where players and rack up extra points to see who can make it to the Semi Finals as we take our TOP 4 players.
Here are the players who have made it to the TOP 8 and are competing for spots in the TOP 4 Semi Finals
Note:  The Golf Committee was informed by John Riggs (#2 seed) and Ted Clinite (#4 seed) that they would be unable to continue competing in the “2022 Championship Bracket” due to competition date conflicts and traveling issues.  Therefore seeded players #9, #10 were invited to play in the TOP 8.  Gratefully both Dave Stapleton and Alan Hoekstra accepted the challenge to play in the TOP 8.

Welcome to the following players who are joining us for the first time this golf season:  Today we welcome Bob Newby, Adam Lavoignet,  and Pat Fusco who are visiting and playing with us for the first time this golf season.

For our events, players are placed in golf “Flights” depending on their golf abilities reflected from their official monthly golf indices.  With that, players will be competing in a few categories.  Within their respective “Flights” players will compete for LOW GROSS scoring.  Then against the entire field of players, each player will score points from NET SCORING against the field.  There are individual points that can be earned from:  “Best Nine” low gross scoring, “NET SKINS” scoring, and “Pin Competition” holes (closest to pin / long drive holes).  All the scores are tallied up each month and players will earn points according what they did that day.

Sneakernomics: Golf and Team Sports Equipment Recap of 2020 Results - The NPD Group

Recap Event 11– With our Eleventh golf event  in the books, we had a showing of 26 players who came out to play on a perfect weather golf day.     Green conditions were true and pure as they had punched their greens 2 weeks previous.  Players who placed their approach shots on the green were rewarded by nice rolling greens.  The challenge of this course is to manage your game to keep your ball always in play.  Finding the hazard or not keeping your ball in play would penalize players in a big way.  It’s very tough to recover from errant shots on this course.

To the Action Today !    Ryan Alexander was one player today who came seriously prepared for today’s competition.  Having only come to 4 events this year, Ryan decided to put on a golf clinic to show he has game.  Taking 1st place honors in Flight A,  Ryan cruised around the course making few mistakes and posted a low gross 75 / Low Net 71 for the day.     Johnny Li demonstrated his liking to this golf course as he out played his opponent Rik Thistle in Match Play and posted a low gross 81 / Low Net 68.   Johnny’s  steady play proved that he may have what it takes to become this season’s 2022 Champion.  Ebin Smith (our current 2021 Champion) had some difficulty today and didn’t bring out his “A” game.  Several double bogies on the front nine gave way for Jay Petty to gain some momentum and a sense that he possibly could take on the reigning Seacoast Cup Champion.  With that  Jay Petty continued to play steady and he pulled out the win over Ebin.  Ross Mitchell took matters into his own hand and keep his game under control for the day as he took a win over Dave Stapleton in Match 2.  Additionally, along with his Match Play win,  Ross posted a low gross 89 / Low Net 71 to add 600 points to his totals to earn him the #1 Seed position. the match.  Brian Carter started the day as the #1 Seed as he has played very good golf this past season.  His match against Alan Hoekstra proved to be tight as Alan made a few early birdies to take the early lead in the match. Brian just couldn’t get anything going and posting multiple bogies against a good player like Alan wouldn’t help his cause today.  Brian took the loss today, but in the end, still has enough Playoff points to keep his playoff hopes alive as he now holds the #3 seed.    Brian…way to keep your playoff hopes alive !    John Riggs still was able to fight for points by coming back to win the last #18 hole against Chan to Tie his match and to take the #4 seeded spot.  Riggs unfortunately has to bow out of the Championship Bracket due to travel plans and inability play in this year’s Finals Event.  With this, Jay Petty will be able to participate in the TOP 4 as the #5 seeded player.

In the Player’s Bracket, Scott Crockett scored some big points today to take him from #13 Seed to #7 Seed in our standings.  This could possibly set him up to become the next Player’s Cup champion as we have two more competitive events to go.

Other Notables:   This year we have a few changes in who makes the “Playoffs” and plays in our Championship Bracket.  The tournament committee has made a few improvements and has determined that for our two playoff events, ALL players who participate in the field, will have the ability to earn points toward their points totals.  It is only when we get to the 3rd round of our playoffs, will the CUT line be established.  Those players who have sufficient points will to to the next round in the “Championship Bracket.”  All other players will continue to compete, but will compete in the “Player’s Brackets.”

Here’s a chart of the playoff picture:

USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile.   One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play.   Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible.  Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed.   If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”

Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee.
