Event 7 – Results – July 15, 2016 – Journey at Pechanga,  GC

Welcome to our 7th event of our golf season !   For those who follow our tour closely,  a change in venue was made by the tournament committee as Barona Creek GC,  had reported some “greens” problems with an emergency “punching of the greens” which immediately prompted our golf group to move the event to a more suitable place for this month’s competition.   A big thanks for the golf pro at Journey at Pechanga who graciously accepted our request to host our Friday, July 15 event on 4 days notice.   All those who were able to accommodate the change in schedule, were happily treated to this gem of a course with it’s great views, and challenging greens.

Since this month’s event was supposed to be the 2nd of or “Major” event, the tournament committee voted on designating this month’s event as a “regular” scoring event, and that next month’s event on, August 12, will be now designated as the 2nd “Major” event.  This would allow those who had planned to play on July 15, but had to bow out due to the change, to regroup and not miss out on “Major” event points.

Now to the action for last Friday:   The weather was nice and warm, as expected, but the steady winds kept the field of players from burning up with the hot sun.  Plenty of players applied their sun block, and of course plenty of water was consumed to over come any dehydration issues.   The greens were true.   Those who implemented good course management skills and kept their ball in play, earned a well deserved score for the card.  Many players found themselves searching for errant flying balls outside of the “playing zone” and had to take the painful double and triple bogey.

In the points earning department, Bill Locken put his “A” game into gear and posted a respectable low gross score of 80.     Our current 2016 Seacoast Cup Champion, Ted Clinite, again showcased his game and posted  a low net score of 72  to gain 90 more points sen him to the  #2 position.   Lee Fitzgerald, our #1 points leader, was not able to play the changed venue event, but still maintained his top position on the leaderboard.

A Big Congratulations to our winners:

Low Gross Winners

Flight A – Bill Locken  (80)

Flight B – Ebin Smth  (91)

Next Event: Friday, August 12, 2016   Place:  Twin Oaks GC

Quest for the 2016 Seacoast Cup– This year will be full of fun times on the golf course.  We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2016.  Twenty players will earn their way to this year’s match play event.  Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings.  Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events.  Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.

Also this year we have added additional “Major” events which will have increased value in scoring for that particular event.  These events will take place in April and August 2016.

Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System.   Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, will be assigned a “Flight” depending on their level of play.  These players also may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points.  For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit: Membership and SCGA

Leader board –  After  7 events, Lee Fitzgerald continues to hold onto the top spot, but his lead continues to become less as players are closing the gap.    Our top 20 players are stirring up as playoff contention is just around the corner and our next August 12 event will determine who will make it to our September Playoff Season.  There are a handful of players who are just on the borderline of getting in or falling out of playoff contention.   Get to the range, and tighten up your short game and putting skills as it’s going to be a fun playoff season.
