Event 4 – Results – April 15, 2016 –Steele Canyon  GC

Welcome to our 4th event of our golf season !   Our golf group had a beautiful day of golf here at Steele Canyon.  Our 1st Major Event brought on the challenge of 27 holes of competitive golf.  The first 18 holes were designated as our normal Low Gross / Low Net individual stroke play competition.  Plenty of Pins to shoot at and of course Long Drives were awaiting those who dared to hit the ball long and straight.  Many  in our field of players experienced the “pain” and anguish of posting higher than normal scores.  The greens were quick but fair. Today 25 players came out to see how they could score hit the golf ball accurately…and to earn “Major Event” points towards the 2016 Seacoast Cup Championship.

Today, a few players rose to the occasion and kept their ball on track to score some big points.  In Flight A, Kent Coykendall  showcased his golf swing skills and proved that he can make a run at becoming Champion once again.   In Flight B  Lee Fitzgerald  again played very steady to post a smooth 87 in his first 18 holes..  In Flight C, Rich Ringer showed us his improved golf playing skills by posting a 94. In Fight D, our oldest member Bill Abrell proved that experience can sometimes reign supreme, and that hitting consistently 147 yard shots with a 3 wood will get you around the course just fine.   Bill will be posting scores that match his age very soon.  But today was his day in being the “big point winner” in earning 460 points.

A Big Congratulations to our winners:

Low Gross Winners

Flight A – Kent Coykendall  (85)

Flight B – Lee Fitzgerald   (87)

Flight C – Rich Ringer  (88)

Flight D – Bill Abrell (92)

Next Event: Friday, May 6, 2016   Place:  The Crossings at Carlsbad GC

Our 5th event of the year will take place early in the morning at The Crossings at Carlsbad.  Sign up to get in on this great course and get out to practice your swings to give it your best.

Quest for the 2016 Seacoast Cup– This year will be full of fun times on the golf course.  We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2016.  Twenty players will earn their way to this year’s match play event.  Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings.  Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events.  Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.

Also this year we have added additional “Major” events which will have increased value in scoring for that particular event.  These events will take place in April and July 2016.

Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System.   Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, will be assigned a “Flight” depending on their level of play.  These players also may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points.  For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit: Membership and SCGA

Leader board –  After 4 events, Lee Fitzgerald continues to maintain his top spot…but only to be closely followed, and chased down by Kent Coykendall.   Some notables are:  Bill Abrell took a big leap up the leader board and went from 24th place to now 3rd.  Ebin Smith also catapulted his position from 26th to 8th.  We are drawing close to the mid season point…but there is plenty of golf points available to stake out your position to play in the play-off season.   See you next round !!
