The Field – Cross Creek Golf Club, Temecula, CA
We had a great day of golf. Twenty-Eight players showed up in the early cool temperature air to warm up their swings. As the morning sunshine warmed the air, the players all realized that a great day of golf was upon us…..weather wise of course…but the golf competition of “player vs. course” was a different story… and “sunshine” wasn’t manifested in some player’s scorecards…it was more like “thunder and lightning.”
Note: 3 players chose to play from the BLUE tees. Utilizing the WHS course differentials when players compete from differing tees these player’s BLUE tee course handicap was used to adjust with the Equitable Stroke Control that the WHS provides. A differential of 3 strokes was allotted to these players (Brand/ Gechoff / Pacey)
A Big Welcome back to the following players who have joined us for their 1st time this season: Wayne Wilson, Tim Pacey, Gergg Gechoff, Adam Brand, Bruce Dunn.
A Big Congratulations to our Winners . The course was very lush and green from last week’s rain storm. Here are the results.
Flight “A” Low Gross Winner: Adam Brand (83)
Flight “B” Low Gross Winners : Kent Coykendall (92)
Flight ” C” Low Gross Winners: Jeff Schaefer (94)
Flight ” D” Low Gross Winner: Dave Ednoff (96)
Overall Low Net Winner: Adam Brand (73)
Recap Event 3– With our third event in the books, we had a solid group of eager golfers who came out to play. This semi wilderness course is nestled up in t the hills of Temecula. Lots of open terrain with no homes along the course. Plenty of natural wildlife was visible from birds to coyotes. The weather was just perfect for a day of golf. The only issue was the difficulty of the hard, speedy greens and tough pin locations. If you could manage those areas well, then you’d have a chance. Most of the players all experienced the quick fast greens… 3 and 4 putts were not uncommon today. All the players could mutually agree that conditions today were absolutely TOUGH !
A couple of new faces showed up today whom we haven’t seen in a while. Drs. Gregg Gechoff & Adam Brand, and close friend Tim Pacey, made the drive out to test their skills today. Even with their Orthodontic skills at keeping things straight with their golf clubs, they all professed that keeping things straight and on line was a premium. If you strayed, you would dearly pay…. Adam did bring his “A” game and pretty much kept his ball in play most of the day. Today Adam earned 115 points. Way to go Dr. Adam!
On the leader board, Ted Clinite took over the #1 spot as he steadily added 90 points to his total. Dave Ednoff made some noise and posted a low gross 96 / low net 77 to rack up 100 points towards his totals. He jumped up the leader board from 16th to now the number 3 position. Nicely going Dave !
Jeff Schaefer (another orthodontist in the field) also show cased some great golfing skills by keeping ball mostly in the short stuff all day and he earned 90 points to climb the ladder half way up the field. Kent Coykendall also played steadily and earned his way up to spot #12 to start making a statement that he’s ready for the playoffs.
It’s still early in the season, and there is plenty of opportunity to earn your way up the score board. Our next event will be “Major” event so plan on coming out to enjoy the fun and competition. Here’s the calendar of events for this year so you can plan accordingly.
USGA / GHIN – Membership Responsibilities “POSTING GOLF SCORES” – It is very important for all of us to have a good understanding of “golf handicap” and your “golf index” profile. One of the elements of golf is the “integrity” of each player taking personal responsibility to post all qualified golf scores within 24 hours of date of play. Your golf index is calculated daily and it is important to keep your golf profile as current as possible. Failure to keep it current and NOT POSTING on a timely basis may be grounds for “penalty rounds” to be assessed. If you have any difficulty or don’t completely understand the process, please visit the USGA learning center that explains via video all the info you need to know about “golf handicapping”
Player’s profiles and golf rounds are all subject be audited by the golf committee.
