Event 5 – Results – May 6, 2016 –The Crossings at Carlsbad, GC
Welcome to our 5th event of our golf season ! The threat of rain was in the forecast all week, and as our players checked into the Pro Shop, the rain did show up as predicted. The rain wasn’t too heavy, but many players were worried whether the heavens would open up with a torrential rain pour. As the field finally fully showed up, many were convinced to go ahead with the round as they saw the majority of the guys warming up at the practice range. Rain gear was a plus on this wet day. Lift, Clean, and Place Rules were instituted by the tournament committee as the fairways showed signs of pooling with standing water… and there would be an element of “mud on the ball” for those who were fortunate to find the fairways today. Those who had the special “wet gloves” for wet conditions, surely had the advantage. And those players who were able to pull out their “rain gear” surely were able to stay warm and dry, and were able to at least feel comfortable and not soggy during the round. A couple of guys survived only the front nine and called it ‘quits”…but the majority of the field toughed it out and made it around. In fact, the rain stopped after 9 holes, and by the time the 12th hole came up…the conditions were quite nice and tolerable.
Today, Wet and Windy took its toll on our players. Even our top Flight A players felt the pain of playing under tough conditions. Only a few players rose to the occasion and kept their ball on track and endured the wet conditions. In Flight A, Kent Coykendall kept his composure with his golf swing skills and showed that he wasn’t going to let rain alter his game plan. In Flight B, Scott Jordan played very steady, even though he showed up without any rain gear today. In fact he used the rainy conditions to his advantage and explained that it was a matter of just keeping the ball in play. He also commented that he would have been better off playing in a bathing suit (board shorts) today as this would have kept him from being soaked. In Flight C, Curtis Chan was able to keep his game from scoring the “out of this world” line score and minimized his “blow up holes” today. Chan explained to his grouping that his “GolfTec” lesson plan has finally turned the corner and that now he knows what the “Perfect Golf Swing” should look like….he just has to put the time and effort into much needed practice… so that his muscle memory will favor the “New Swing” rather than his faulty swing of the past. Curtis has shown an elevated monthly index/handicap trend as his golf swing woes have been showing up in his improved golf swing quest. His instructor did advised him that his golf swing would go through the “valley of death” …before the “resurrection” of the new swing….Curtis is being very patient and hopeful . He told some buddies during lunch that he is totally counting on his GolfTec swing coach being right…and hopefully by the time the “playoffs” come up in a few months, he’ll be ready.
In the points earning department, Kent Coykendall steadily is closing the gap that Lee Fitzgerald has established. Kent now only trails by 74 points

Next Event: Friday, June 3, 2016 Place: The Golf Club of California GC
Quest for the 2016 Seacoast Cup– This year will be full of fun times on the golf course. We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2016. Twenty players will earn their way to this year’s match play event. Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings. Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events. Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.
Also this year we have added additional “Major” events which will have increased value in scoring for that particular event. These events will take place in April and July 2016.
Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System. Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, will be assigned a “Flight” depending on their level of play. These players also may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points. For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit: Membership and SCGA
Leader board – After 5 events, Lee Fitzgerald still has a foothold on the top spot, even though he missed out on Friday’s event. The big lead he has built these past months, has afforded him the luxury of missing a round, Kent Coykendall is chipping away at the lead with his 105 points earned this past Friday’s event. Overall the standings haven’t changed very much with this “rained upon golf outing”…but there is plenty of golf left in our regular season. So come on out and enjoy the Summer part of our golf season.
