Today we had 32 players come out to compete in our Seacoast Christian GC  first “Major” event of the year, where increased value in points scoring were waiting to be won.  Those players who brought their “A” game and those who were successful in navigating this challenging course would find their points scoring endeavors today be very positive.  Also the Par 3 “Pine Glen” course made available high point scoring as “net birdie” scoring points were an added plus to those players who had their short game in good order.

Players without official golf indices were placed in flights base on their scoring and playing ability.

Flight A –  handicap 4-14

Flight B –  handicap 15-20

Fight  C –  handicap 21-37

Recap Event 4 – With four events in the books, we have reached the half way point of our Seacoast Cup golf season.  There is still plenty of golf events available to score points to make the 2019 Seacoast Cup Playoffs starting September 2019.   Our leader board is now headed up by Kent Coykendall who was able to key in his “A” game on both courses but mostly he took advantage of his short game skills on the Par 3 Pine Glen course and added big scoring points to add to his monthly totals.

Kent fired a 59 (+5)  score on this challenging par 3 course but also played his “A” game and had several scoring opportunities to post “closest to the pin” honors as well as winning “low net” birdies.  At the end of the day he ended up winning a total of 330 points to catapult him to the top of the leader board.

Other notables were Jay Brandenburg, Curtis Chan, and Geoff Baynes  all  took advantage of point scoring opportunities to position themselves in the “TOP 5” of our leader board.  Curtis Chan, who had to miss the first 2 events of the year, amazingly made up much needed points to close the gap from his early season deficit. Curtis posted a low gross 86 to win his  “Flight B” group, but also scored a 63 (+9) on the Par 3  Pine Glen course to take low gross honors.  At the start of today, Curtis held the 53rd spot on the leader board, but now is in a tie for 2nd place on our leader board.  Curtis racked up a big total of 350 points today !!    Jay Brandenburg took his game today to a new level and almost broke “100” in his gross scoring in round 1, but earned the top “Low Net” score of 64.   Today Jay earned himself 316 points.  Jay has climbed his way from the 31st spot to now in a tie with Curtis to share 2nd place honors on our leader board.  Way to go Jay !!!   Geoff Baynes showed off his short course skills and won his flight for the Pine Glen par 3 course.  All that weekly practice and play at the Lomas Santa Fe Executive Par 3 course paid off today as he scored a  67 (+13)  to earn him a 1st place finish in Flight C.  Today Geoff earned a total of 266 points to help him climb from 21st to 4th place on our leader board.

The Seacoast Christian GC golf season now in full stride with players making their moves on the leader board

Next Event – Friday, May 10, 2019 – The Crossings at Carlsbad GC/  7:30a start         $74 Special Tournament Fee

This will be the 5th event of the year.  Players need to reply to Curtis at CurtisChanDDS@gmail.com to reserve a spot in the field.  Regular season point scoring will be in place.

JC Membership Card / Coupons for this event  – Since this course is also new to the JC Courses collection, the tournament committee was not able to negotiate “JC member” privileges for this event.  Instead, we are able to get the Carlsbad resident rate ($69 + $5 range balls) .  The JC rate is $64 but at the time of contracting this course was not a JC member course.  Plus having to reserve a tournament 1 year in advance precludes from negotiate a JC member rate.  Next year the tournament committee will do their best to obtain the JC rate.  Thanks for your understanding on this issue.
